Lindsay Pierce became a 1 in 26, ironically, on the 26th of July when she was just 12 years old. Diagnosed with tonic-clonic seizures; now at 17, Lindsay is currently two and half year’s seizure free thanks to a strong and solid medication routine.
A dream she thought would not be possible because of epilepsy, Lindsay is about to head off to Florida this fall to attend the University of Miami and study Marine Biology. Lindsay is a proud recipient of EFNENY’s 2022 annual college scholarship award. In addition to her studies, Lindsay would love to be able to participate in in-water field research and scuba dive with the university while at college this fall.
Over the years Lindsay has been a strong warrior in the fight for epilepsy awareness, including being an annual participant in the annual Walk for Epilepsy. “Weirdly enough, my best friend since birth also has epilepsy, and each year we invite our family and friends to participate. Over the years, we have raised over $15,000 dollars for the cause,” said Lindsay.
One thing Lindsay wants others to know about epilepsy is that “epilepsy stays with you even when you’re seizure free. No matter how long I go without a seizure, I will always have a different lifestyle than someone without epilepsy.”
