Hello, I’m Karen Wachs, and I’m honored to share my journey with the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York (EFNENY) and our signature event, the Confections in Chocolate Gala for Hope. My involvement with this incredible organization began seven years ago, and I’ve been privileged to serve as a board member for the past five years. Throughout that time, my connection to EFNENY has only deepened, and I’ve had the distinct pleasure of co-chairing the Gala for the second year in a row.
Why I Chose to Get Involved with EFNENY and the Gala for Hope:
When I first heard about EFNENY, I was immediately drawn to their mission. Epilepsy affects so many families, and yet it’s often misunderstood or overlooked. The more I learned about the organization’s commitment to providing vital support, resources, and education for those living with epilepsy, the more I felt compelled to get involved. It became clear to me that this cause was not only close to my heart, but also something I could help grow and elevate within my community.
The Confections in Chocolate Gala for Hope caught my attention because of its powerful blend of fundraising and community-building in an elegant, and beautiful setting. It’s a time to celebrate, learn, and come together to support those 1 in 26 individuals impacted by epilepsy. As a co-chair, I’m able to play a hands-on role in shaping the event, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see how much it has grown over the years.
